Memory Loss

Memory loss is often a natural part of aging, however, it can be related to other conditions such as stress, anxiety, depression and insomnia. Occasionally, memory loss can be a sign of something more serious, such as dementia. In more serious cases, it can result from serious trauma or damage to the brain. In such instances, it may be very difficult to recover from or treat.

Treating Memory Loss with TCM

If memory loss is the result of age, stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia or after illness, it can be treated by a Chinese Medicine practitioner with acupuncture and Chinese herbs. The Chinese herbal medicine would tonify the Kidneys and strengthen Qi and Blood, as well as opening the channels to release nourishment to the brain. It may also be necessary to tonify Spleen-Qi.

Gou Qi Zi (Fructus Lycii), Shu Di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata) and He Shou Wu (Radix Polygoni Multiflori) can be used. Acupuncture is quite important in this treatment and auricular acupressure can be utilised with great effect. Tiny needles are placed in the ears and taped in place for several days, without the wearer being aware of them. These can strengthen the Kidneys and nourish the brain.
