Yang is one half of both the Tai Chi and Yin-Yang Theory. The masculine and positive principle (as in activity, light, heat, or dryness) in nature that according to traditional Chinese cosmology interacts with its opposite, Yin, to produce everything that comes into existence.

There are different phases of interaction between Yin and Yang:

  • Opposition
  • Interdependence
  • Mutual Consumption
  • Inter-transformation

In the context of medicine, Yang corresponds to:

  • Back
  • Superior – The head and any area above the waist
  • Exterior – Skin and muscles
  • Yang Organs and overall organ function
  • Qi
  • Wei-Qi (Defensive Qi)
