Ze Xie

Ze Xie (Rhizoma Alismatis) is from the stem tuber of Alsima orientale (Sam) Juzep., family Alismataceae. The medicinal material is dug and collected in the winter, then the tuber and leaves become yellow. It is dried in the sun or shade and sliced. It can be used unprocessed or after stir-baking with salt.

Properties and Functions: Ze Xie is sweet and bland in flavour, and cold in nature. It promotes urination to resolve Dampness and can expel Damp-Heat from the lower jiao.

Indications: It is used for the treatment of oedema, dysuria, diarrhoea, turbid stranguria, leucorrhagia and dizziness due to retention of Phlegm, and is especially effective for Damp-Heat type syndromes in the lower jiao.

Dosage: 5 – 10g
