Tao Ren (Semen Persicae) is from the seed of Prunus persica or P. davidiana, family Rosaceae. The ripe fruits are picked from July to September. The flesh of the fruit is removed and the seed casing is then broken to obtain the seed. After being dried in the sun, they are usually peeled and used in this unprocessed form, or they can be pounded to break them into fine pieces.

Properties and Functions: Tao Ren is bitter in flavour and mild in nature. It promotes blood circulation to remove stasis and moistens the intestines to relax the bowels.

Indications: It is used for many Blood stasis syndromes, in particular those with irregular menstruation, amenorrhoea, dysmenorrhoea, postpartum abdominal pain and abdominal masses. Its other application is in the treatment of constipation due to Dryness.

Dosage: 6 – 10g

Cautions and Contra-Indications: It is contra-indicated in cases of Blood deficiency and during pregnancy.
