Muscular Dystrophy

Muscular Dystrophy is a genetic disorder, leading to progressive wasting of the muscles. The Duchenne type of muscular dystrophy begins in childhood, affecting boys between four and ten years old.

It starts with a weakness in the legs, the child may walk on tiptoe all the time, or start to waddle and be unable to climb stairs. Muscular Dystrophy is progressively debilitating, causing curvature of the spine and there is no cure, although physiotherapy and other forms of assistance can be given.

Chinese Medicine works on the Kidneys, Spleen and Stomach to help digestion so that the body can absorb nutrients to help muscles. A Chinese Medicine practitioner will prescribe Liu Jun Zi Tang (The Six Gentlemen Decoction) and acupuncture will be given to stimulate the muscles and help the circulation to the tissues.
