Jin Yin Hua (Flos Lonicerae) is from the flower bud of Lonicera japonica, L. hypoglauca and L. confusa, family Caprifoliaceae. The medicinal material is produced in all parts of China and is usually collected in the summer. It is dried in the shade and used in its crude form.

Properties and Functions: Jin Yin Hua is sweet in flavour and cold in nature. It clears Heat and toxins, eliminates and disperses Wind-Heat and also eliminates Summer-Heat.
Indications: The clinical indications for using Jin Yin Hua are:
- Seasonal febrile disease or exterior syndrome of Wind-Heat type with fever, thirst, sore throat, headache and mild aversion to wind.
- Sores, carbuncles, and swelling due to Yang syndrome of toxic-Heat type. This can be for any stage of development. Usually for affected areas such as breasts, throat or eyes. It can also be used for intestinal or lung abscesses.
- Dysenteric disorder of Heat type.
- Summer-Heat syndrome with excessive thirst, sore throat, summer carbuncle and heat rash.
Dosage: 6 – 20g
Cautions and Contra-Indications: Avoid use in cases of cold from deficiency of Spleen or Stoamch and in cases where Qi deficiency sores present with clear pus.
