Jin Qian Cao (Herba Lysimachiae) is from the whole plant of Lysimachia christinae Hance, family Primulaceae. The medicinal material is collected during summer and autumn, dried in the sun and then cut into pieces. It is used in this crude form.

Properties and Functions: Jin Qian Cao is sweet and bland in flavour, and is slightly cold in nature. It functions to clear Damp-Heat and induce diuresis to treat stranguria; clear Damp-Heat from the Liver and Gall Bladder to treat jaundice and also it works to clear Heat and eliminate toxins to relieve swelling.

Indications: It is used clinically to treat:

  • Jaundice and/or red, swollen eyes due to Damp-Heat.
  • Stranguria (dribbling urine) and painful urination, sometimes accompanied by urinary tract stones.
  • Less commonly, it is used to treat snakebites, abscesses and traumatic injury.

Dosage: 15 – 60g
