Ji Xue Teng (Caulis Spatholobi) is from the vine of Spatholobus suberectus Dunn, family Leguminosaae. The medicinal material is cut in the autumn. It is sun-dried and then cut into pieces. It is used in either its raw form or as a paste.

Properties and Functions: Ji Xue Teng is bitter and slightly sweet in flavour, and warm in nature. Its functions are to promote blood circulation and enrich the Blood, whilst also regulating menstruation, relaxing the tendons and activating the channel.
Indications: Its clinical indications for us include:
- Irregular Menstruation, dysmenorrhea or amenorrhea due to Blood stasis, Blood deficiency, or Blood deficiency occuring concurrently with stasis.
- Numbness, soreness, weakness and paralysis of the extremities, lower back and/or knees due to Blood stasis or Wind-Damp Bi syndrome.
Dosage: 9 – 15g
Cautions and Contra-Indications: It should be avoided in cases of profuse menses and during pregnancy.
