Er Chen Tang

English Name: Two Old Drugs Decoction.

Category: Dampness Drying and Phlegm Eliminating.

Functions: Drying dampness; resolving phlegm; regulating the flow of qi; harmonising the middle jiao.

Indications: Er Chen Tang is indicated for cough or vomiting due to phlegm-dampness, characterised by a cough with much whitish sputum which is easily expectorated, fullness and choking sensation in the chest, nausea and vomiting, lassitude, or dizziness and palpitation. The tongue is greasy with a whitish fur and the pulse is slippery.

Ingredients:

  • Ban Xia [Rhizoma Pinelliae] – 15g
  • Chen Pi [Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae] – 15g
  • Fu Ling [Poria] – 9g
  • Zhi Gan Cao [Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparatae] – 5g

Cautions and Contra-Indications: As this formula is warm and drying in nature, it is contra-indicated for cases of phlegm-heat or dryness syndrome of the lung due to yin deficiency.
