Du Huo (Radix Angelicae Pubescentis) is from the root of Angelica pubescens Maxim. f. biserrata shan. et Yuan, family Umbelliferae. The medicial material is usually dug up at the end of autumn and early spring. It is dried in the sun and then cut into pieces and used in its crude, unprocessed form.

Properties and Functions: Du Hou is pungent and bitter in flavour, and warm in nature. Its main functions are to expel Wind and Dampness, stop pain relating to Bi-syndrome and relieve exogenous pathogenic factors i.e. releasing the exterior.
Indications: Du Huo is clinically indicated for the following:
- Wind-Cold-Damp Bi-syndrome giving rise to pain in the lower back and legs, accompanied with soreness and aching of the muscles.
- Exterior Wind-Cold syndrome with accompanying Dampness manifesting as aversion to cold, with fever, headaches, a general sensation of heaviness throughout the body and pain or soreness in the lumbar region and legs.
Dosage: 3 – 10g
Cautions and Contra-Indications: Contra-indicated for cases of deficient Yin, deficient Blood and internal Wind.
