Pregnancy Pain Management
A recently published article in the Guardian newspaper citing a British Medical Journal (BMJ) study suggests that acupuncture is effective for pregnancy pain management, specifically in treating back pain and pelvic pain.
The analysis conducted shows that there are significant pain relieving benefits, with no major side-effects for mother or baby, although it suggests further trials will be needed to confirm the results.
This is a hugely positive development for acupuncture in the U.K. and one which Asante Academy has been involved with for many years through its partnership with the NHS in providing maternity acupuncture services with local hospitals.
We are encouraged by this development and hope that future studies will reinforce what we have observed in clinical practice.
