Ascending and descending

Ascending and descending are the moving directions of qi or energy in the meridians and organs. The qi of each organ may differ from others in its movement. For example, liver-qi is ascending, lung-qi is descending, spleen-qi is ascending, and stomach-qi is descending. These are the normal directions for the movement of qi in these organs, and when the direction is reversed, imbalance will occur in the organ which may lead to illness.
