Ginger is pungent and warm in nature. Ginger promotes sweating, stops vomiting and has a detoxifying action. Ginger can also stimulate blood circulation and strengthens stomach function. Ginger is suitable in cases of vomiting, stomachache and abdominal pain due to cold invading the stomach. Ginger is very good in the early stages of cold/flu alongside garlic and onion or spring onion. Ginger can be eaten cooked, and in a soup with brown sugar is good for painful periods caused by cold and stagnation. Also ginger is very good for morning sickness in pregnancy. Too much ginger will cause heat in the body and so yin deficient patients ie insomniacs, nightsweats, etc should not eat too much ginger.
